This transformation was accomplished by painting the built-in bookcases an off-white color, and moving the television over the fireplace which brings the two focal points in the space together so that they can both be enjoyed. We added canned lighting because the room depended on mostly natural lighting, so there was insufficient lighting at night. We replaced the area rug with a more neutral and larger one, thus acting as an anchor with the furniture arrangement. We updated the window treatments with woven wood shades and silk drapery panels which hang on a 2 1/2" wood rod. New furnishings were selected to better fill the space and keep it balanced. The color on the walls is Benjamin Moore Dark Olive. Lastly, we removed some of the accessories for use elsewhere in the home and displayed the remaining accessories in a balanced and purposeful way. A few red accessories were added to act as an accent color.
